Diomedian Stallion
A tough, carnivorous horse found in many forests across Legere. They strongly resembled normal horses, but their hair is a greyish green with blood-red manes and tails. Their legs bore bony spikes which protruded from the sides.
A diomedian stallions’ most prominent and recognizable trait was their head. It was long and slender like a horse’s, but it ended in a fearsome vortex of razor sharp teeth. This aided them in stripping the flesh from their food; diomedian stallions were scavengers.
Diomedian stallions were more common across Legere before The Calamity. Carrion Retrievers would encroach on the ecological niche of the stallions. Populations of the stallions remain fairly stable in wooded areas, since the forests help block larger flocks of the retrivers.
Warhorses and Mounts #
Diomedian stallions were used by some as steeds as opposed to horses. They made effective warhorses, since they were more resilient against fear, and capable of being more aggressive than normal horses. However, they were more temperamental and more costly to feed because of their diet of meat. Depending on the military force, the casualties of war could be used to feed diomedian stallions.
Diomedian stallions were much less loyal than horses, often turning on their rider should they become mortally wounded.
